St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) is making waves in the sailing world with the launch of its first-ever SVG Sailing Week, set to take place from April 13–21, 2025. This highly anticipated event aims to blend competitive sailing with cultural experiences, offering a week-long journey through the stunning islands and cays of SVG.
Building on the rich heritage of the renowned Bequia Easter Regatta, SVG Sailing Week expands this tradition into a multi-island spectacle, providing participants with world-class racing opportunities while showcasing the region’s breathtaking natural beauty. From the volcanic landscapes of St. Vincent to the tranquil turquoise waters surrounding Union Island, Mayreau, and Canouan, this regatta promises an unforgettable experience for sailors and visitors alike.
SVG Sailing Week will feature two exciting racing events that highlight the diverse and scenic sailing conditions across the archipelago:
The Bougainvillea Cup (April 13–15, 2025)
This three-day regatta kicks off on the mainland of St. Vincent, taking sailors on a thrilling journey through the Grenadines. Participants will compete in inter-island races with stops at Union Island, Mayreau, and Canouan. The event will culminate in a grand celebration where competitors and spectators can immerse themselves in Vincentian music, food, and culture.
The Bequia Easter Regatta (April 16–21, 2025)
Returning in grand fashion, this historic sailing event will feature two major races: the iconic Around Bequia Race and the Admiralty Bay Triangle. These races test the skills of seasoned sailors while offering breathtaking views of Bequia’s stunning coastline. The competition will conclude with a prize-giving ceremony and farewell party, ensuring a festive close to the week’s activities.
Minister of Tourism, Carlos James, sees SVG Sailing Week as a pivotal moment for the country’s tourism and maritime sectors. “This event is more than just a regatta—it is a statement to the world that St. Vincent and the Grenadines is a top-tier sailing destination. Our natural beauty, rich maritime heritage, and local expertise make us an unmatched location for sailors and adventure seekers.”
SVG has long been considered a hidden gem among global sailing destinations. Annette Mark, CEO of the SVG Tourism Authority, believes the event will further elevate the country’s reputation. “With our pristine waters, diverse islands, and strong sailing culture, this event provides the perfect platform to welcome the global sailing community to our shores,” she stated.
To reinforce its commitment to sailing development, SVG recently joined the Caribbean Sailing Association, a move that aligns it with other premier sailing destinations in the region.
SVG Sailing Week is not just about competition—it’s an opportunity for visitors to experience authentic Caribbean culture. The post-race festivities will showcase live local music, traditional cuisine, and lively island celebrations. One of the highlights will be Bequia’s legendary boat-building tradition, where local craftsmen continue to construct wooden boats using age-old techniques.
Whether you are a professional sailor, a travel enthusiast, or someone looking for a unique Caribbean adventure, SVG Sailing Week has something to offer. Beyond the races, visitors can explore the islands through rainforest hikes, snorkeling adventures, and secluded beach escapes.
CEO Annette Mark emphasized the event’s global appeal, saying, “This is more than just a regatta; it’s a celebration of the spirit, beauty, and culture that make St. Vincent and the Grenadines truly special.”
With its stunning sailing routes, vibrant cultural offerings, and commitment to showcasing local heritage, SVG Sailing Week 2025 is set to become one of the most exciting and unmissable sailing events in the Caribbean.
