The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced the temporary closure of two major roads Uhuru Highway and Juja-Gatundu Road to facilitate planned activities and infrastructure improvements.
A section of Uhuru Highway, specifically the Mombasa-bound carriageway between University Way and Kenyatta Avenue roundabouts, will be temporarily closed on Tuesday, March 4, 2025. The closure will take effect from 9:00 am to 10:30 am to allow for a procession commemorating World Engineering Day.
Motorists heading towards Mombasa Road are advised to use alternative routes during the closure period. KeNHA has provided the following recommended diversions:
- Exit at Boulevard Hotel and use Harry Thuku Road, Moi Avenue, and Kenyatta Avenue to rejoin Uhuru Highway at Kenyatta Avenue roundabout.
- Alternatively, use University Way roundabout to access Nyerere Road, Processional Way, and Kenyatta Avenue before rejoining the highway.
KeNHA has urged road users to approach the affected area with caution, adhere to the proposed traffic management plans, and cooperate with police officers and traffic marshals on-site.
In addition to the Uhuru Highway disruption, KeNHA has also announced the temporary closure of Juja-Gatundu Road. The closure, which began on Friday, February 28, 2025, will last until March 3, 2025, at 8:00 pm. This is to facilitate the installation of a cross culvert.
Motorists using this route are advised to take the following alternative routes:
- Use the diversion at Equity Afia Medical Centre (Juja) Road to rejoin Juja-Gatundu Road.
- Utilize Mucatha Road through the Jomo Kenyatta University Way roundabout to connect with Thika Superhighway.
The two latest closures come just days after KeNHA announced disruptions at the Haile Selassie roundabout to allow for the construction of a pedestrian underpass. These measures are part of the government’s broader infrastructure improvement strategy aimed at enhancing road safety and efficiency.
KeNHA has assured the public that all necessary measures are in place to minimize inconvenience and has requested motorists to remain patient as the improvements are carried out.
