Christian Craighead, a former SAS soldier celebrated for his heroic actions during the 2019 DusitD2 terrorist attack in Nairobi, Kenya, has been hired to join US President-elect Donald Trump’s personal security team. According to The Mail, the 48-year-old soldier will assist in organizing reconnaissance for locations where Trump is set to appear, including his inauguration in Washington on January 20.
Craighead gained international recognition for rescuing hostages during the DusitD2 attack. At the time, he was reportedly in Nairobi training Kenya’s security forces in counter-terrorism. When the attack occurred, Craighead, though off duty, quickly grabbed weapons from his truck and led a daring operation to save lives. His swift actions helped rescue dozens of British and American hotel guests held captive by al-Shabaab militants.
A family member revealed that Trump has admired Craighead’s bravery since the attack and forged a personal bond with him over the years. “Trump first reached out to Chris after the terror attack, telling him how much he admired his actions. They have kept in regular touch ever since,” said the family member. Craighead is also said to be close to Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr., and his former partner, Kimberly Guilfoyle, having spent time with them in Miami.
During his presidency, Trump publicly acknowledged Craighead’s heroism, commending him for his role in neutralizing the attackers and saving hostages. The DusitD2 attack, which began with a suicide bombing and was followed by a mass shooting, resulted in the deaths of 21 civilians, one Kenyan soldier, and the five militants.
Craighead’s addition to Trump’s security detail underscores the former president’s preference for individuals with proven expertise and valor. As Trump prepares for his inauguration, Craighead’s presence signals a heightened commitment to ensuring safety at all public appearances.
