The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has initiated temporary replacements for several retiring county directors across Kenya, among those affected are James Okong’o, who served as the Wajir County Director, and Francis Rotino Lotam from West Pokot.
In Wajir, TSC has appointed Ali Yusuff Ahmed, who was Okong’o’s deputy, as the interim county director. Ahmed has been the Deputy Director (DD) to Okong’o until his recent retirement and also serves as the Sub-County Director (SCD) in charge of Wajir Central.
Similarly, in West Pokot, Joseph Musyoka has been named the interim county director, replacing Lotam. Musyoka was recently transferred to West Pokot from Bungoma County, where he was the SCD for the newly-created Kimaeti Sub-county. He succeeded Jayne Nyakoe, who moved to Bungoma County as the DD.
Lotam has been on leave since last month, pending his retirement later this year. According to a senior officer at TSC headquarters, the interim directors will serve until permanent appointments are made. “This does not preclude those serving temporarily from being considered for permanent positions. They are eligible for promotions if they meet the qualifications,” the source explained.
The source also indicated that more temporary changes are expected nationwide to replace other directors who will retire soon. These adjustments will primarily involve temporary appointments until permanent directors are selected.
