Police recovered 100 goats stolen from Lochacha Village, Turkana. The operation, conducted by the multi-agency team under Operation Maliza Uhalifu, took place on Tuesday in Namakat Village, Katilu Location.
The National Police Service (NPS), in a statement issued on Wednesday, confirmed the recovery of the livestock alongside one AK-47 assault rifle, a magazine, and 11 rounds of ammunition. The goats were handed back to their rightful owner at the General Service Unit (GSU) Camp in Kainuk in the presence of officials from the National Government Administration Officers (NGAO) and security personnel from Sarmach and Lochacha.
Since its inception in 2023, Operation Maliza Uhalifu has been instrumental in reducing banditry and restoring peace in the North Rift and Eastern regions. Over the past year, the operation has led to the recovery of 241 illegal firearms and more than 15,345 stolen animals. Additionally, 272 suspects have been arrested, contributing to the improved security and stability in the region.
The government has classified parts of Turkana, West Pokot, Baringo, Samburu, Laikipia, and other counties as “dangerous and disturbed areas” due to frequent bandit attacks. The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and NPS have worked closely to ensure safety, enabling residents to resume normal activities, including learning.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has reiterated the government’s commitment to restoring order. “We will address the security challenges along the Turkana-West Pokot border and near Kenya’s borders with Uganda and South Sudan,” Kindiki stated.
Turkana has long been plagued by insecurity, but recent efforts have significantly reduced violence. With continued multi-agency collaboration, the region is witnessing the gradual return of peace, offering hope for sustained stability and growth.
