Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL), through its flagship brand Tusker, has bolstered the George Mwangi Kabeberi Memorial Sevens Tournament, popularly known as the Kabeberi Sevens, with a sponsorship of Ksh 3 million. This highly anticipated fourth leg of the 2024 National Sevens Circuit, hosted by Mwamba RFC, is set to take place this weekend at the RFUEA Grounds in Nairobi. The event will bring together top rugby clubs from across Kenya, competing for the coveted title in what promises to be a thrilling weekend of rugby action.
The Kabeberi Sevens is a prestigious tournament within the National Sevens Circuit, and Tusker’s sponsorship reinforces its longstanding commitment to the development of rugby in Kenya. As part of this sponsorship, Tusker has secured the rights as the official alcohol beverage partner of the tournament, a move that also includes providing an exciting after-party experience for the event. This partnership highlights Tusker’s dedication not only to supporting the sport financially but also to enhancing the overall event experience for both fans and players.
During the sponsorship presentation at the RFUEA Grounds, Anthony Wasilwa, KBL’s Area Business Manager for Nairobi, expressed the brand’s pride in being associated with the Kabeberi Sevens. “Tusker is proud to be the official alcohol beverage partner for the George Mwangi Kabeberi Sevens, one of the most revered tournaments in the National Sevens Circuit. Our sponsorship of Ksh 3 million is a testament to our continued commitment to supporting and growing rugby in Kenya,” Wasilwa remarked.
Wasilwa further emphasized that the sponsorship goes beyond mere financial support, noting that Tusker aims to create a vibrant and memorable experience for everyone involved in the tournament. “We are also enhancing the event experience for fans and players alike by providing a vibrant after-party experience. This is all part of our commitment to ensuring that Kabeberi Sevens is not just a rugby tournament, but a memorable celebration of Kenyan culture,” he added.
Mwamba RFC Chairman Jason Braganza also expressed his gratitude for Tusker’s continued support, recognizing the brand’s longstanding involvement in Kenyan rugby. “We are delighted to have Tusker on board once again for Kabeberi Sevens. Tusker is a long-time supporter of rugby, and this sponsorship speaks to the brand’s continued commitment to the growth of the sport in the country,” said Braganza. He further highlighted that the sponsorship would significantly contribute to the success of the event, assuring fans of an exciting and enjoyable tournament.
The Kabeberi Sevens follows the third leg of the National Sevens Circuit, the Dala Sevens, which was held at the Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Kisumu this past weekend. This event, also sponsored by Tusker, saw Kabras Sugar RFC emerge as the victors after defeating Menengai Oilers from Nakuru with a score of 24-5 in the final. Kenya Harlequins secured third place, KCB lifted the 5th place trophy, while Strathmore and Homeboyz won the Challenge Trophy and 13th place trophy, respectively.
With their victory at the Dala Sevens, Kabras Sugar RFC now leads the circuit leaderboard with 63 points, seven points ahead of second-placed KCB RFC, who have accumulated 56 points. Menengai Oilers and Kenya Harlequin currently occupy the 4th and 5th spots on the leaderboard, each with 46 points. As the National Sevens Circuit continues, the competition is intensifying, and all eyes will be on the RFUEA Grounds this weekend to see which team will emerge victorious at the Kabeberi Sevens.
Tusker’s sponsorship of the Kabeberi Sevens underscores the brand’s commitment to the growth and development of rugby in Kenya. Through its support, Tusker continues to play a pivotal role in fostering a vibrant rugby culture in the country, ensuring that events like the Kabeberi Sevens are not only competitive but also memorable celebrations of sport and community.
