A tragic road accident near Siyapei Bridge in Narok County claimed the lives of two people and left another injured on Monday evening. The incident, which occurred at approximately 7:00 p.m., unfolded 9 kilometres east of Siyapei Police Station.
The collision involved an Isuzu FRR lorry, registration number KDK 364U, and a Skygo motorcycle, registration number KMFU 751W, which was being ridden by 25-year-old Leonard Ntoika Sanoe. The motorcycle carried two pillion passengers.
According to preliminary police reports, both vehicles were traveling towards Mai-Mahiu from Narok when the lorry attempted to overtake the motorcycle. The ill-fated manoeuvre caused the motorcycle to veer off course, leading to the lorry running over the rider and one of the passengers.
Leonard Ntoika Sanoe and 60-year-old Parsariro Sanoe died instantly. The other passenger, 40-year-old Muyani Ntaiya, sustained minor injuries and was rushed to Narok County Referral Hospital, where he is currently in stable condition.
The lorry driver fled the scene immediately after the crash and is yet to be apprehended. Law enforcement officers have since launched a manhunt to locate the suspect, urging members of the public to provide any information regarding his whereabouts.
Both vehicles involved in the collision have been towed to Narok Police Station for further examination. Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased were taken to the Narok County Referral Hospital mortuary, where postmortem procedures are expected to be conducted.
This incident underscores the critical need for adherence to road safety regulations, particularly during overtaking manoeuvres on busy highways. Authorities are intensifying investigations to determine the exact circumstances that led to the fatal crash.
