Speaking at the Third International Summit on Food Security “Grain from Ukraine” in Kyiv, Zelensky outlined a vision for multifaceted collaboration with Africa.
Expanding Diplomatic Presence in Africa
Highlighting the importance of direct engagement, Zelensky announced Ukraine’s decision to open 10 new embassies across Africa this year, seven of which are already operational. Plans for three more embassies are underway, signaling Ukraine’s intent to establish a robust diplomatic footprint on the continent.
“We need to have contact with African leaders and ministers and have dialogue on various issues,” Zelensky said, underlining the importance of consistent communication to strengthen bilateral relations.
Beyond Food Security
While food security remains a cornerstone of Ukraine’s partnerships with Africa, Zelensky stressed that the relationship must evolve to include other areas of mutual benefit. He proposed the establishment of grain hubs in Africa to ensure reliable food supplies, coupled with efforts to share Ukraine’s expertise in agriculture and technology.
“We don’t want to just stock up on food. We want to share technologies, processing methods, and our skills in land cultivation,” he said. By transferring cutting-edge techniques and knowledge, Ukraine aims to help African nations enhance agricultural productivity, create jobs, and foster economic growth.
Cybersecurity and Digital Governance
Zelensky also highlighted Ukraine’s advanced capabilities in cybersecurity and digital governance as potential areas for collaboration. “We are skilled in cybersecurity and have experience in protecting people from digital attacks,” he said, referencing Ukraine’s innovations in digitizing government services amid ongoing challenges from Russian aggression.

President Zelensky highlighted Kenya as a significant partner in Ukraine’s strategy to enhance ties with Africa. Speaking about his recent meeting with Kenyan President William Ruto at the Ukraine Peace Summit in Switzerland, Zelensky praised Kenya’s proactive role in food security discussions.
“Our teams are working together, and our bilateral teams will soon announce the results,” Zelensky said. He hinted at ongoing negotiations concerning the construction of a grain hub in Kenya and broader discussions on Ukraine’s peace formula.

Despite the challenges posed by Russian blockades in the Black Sea, Zelensky reiterated Ukraine’s unwavering commitment to global food security. “We value our partnerships with nations across the globe and remain committed to serving as a reliable contributor to food security,” he affirmed.
