The Ministry of Education has declared that the application portal for scholarships and loans for students joining universities and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions will officially open on Tuesday, June 18, 2024. This development is part of the Student-Centred Funding Model aimed at supporting the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) cohort.
Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ezekiel Machogu revealed that the applications were initially scheduled to commence on Saturday, June 15, 2024. However, the ministry decided to adjust the timeline following recent changes to the national calendar.
“On June 14th, 2024, the Government declared Monday, June 17th, 2024, a public holiday to mark Eid Al-Adha. Consequently, in solidarity with our Muslim fraternity, the Ministry of Education decided to move the portal opening date from Saturday, June 15th, 2024, to Tuesday, June 18th, 2024, to allow Kenyans ample time to prepare and celebrate Eid Al-Adha,” stated CS Machogu.
This strategic shift not only acknowledges the importance of the Eid Al-Adha celebrations but also ensures that prospective students have adequate time to prepare their applications. The new date is expected to streamline the application process, providing students with a clear and uninterrupted timeline to seek financial assistance.
The Student-Centred Funding Model is designed to make education more accessible by offering scholarships and loans to deserving students. This initiative is part of the government’s broader commitment to enhancing educational opportunities and supporting the academic aspirations of Kenyan youth.
Students and their families are encouraged to utilize the time leading up to the portal opening to gather necessary documents and information required for the application process. The Ministry of Education has assured that all systems are in place to facilitate a smooth and efficient application experience.
For more information on the application process and eligibility criteria, students are advised to visit the official Ministry of Education website or contact the relevant department for assistance.
As the nation prepares to mark Eid Al-Adha, the Ministry of Education extends its best wishes to all celebrating this important occasion. The decision to adjust the application dates underscores the ministry’s commitment to inclusivity and respect for the diverse cultural and religious fabric of Kenya.
