The Vihiga County Term Two Games are set to commence with a renewed emphasis on integrity and fair play. As the competition heats up, the Vihiga County Secondary Schools Sports Association (VCSSSA) is taking significant measures to ensure that only legitimate student athletes participate, preserving the essence of sportsmanship and integrity.
Homer Mugalitsi, the Secretary of VCSSSA, has issued a strong directive to coaches, urging them to maintain high standards of integrity. The rising cases of impersonation and document alteration, which allow non-students to take part in these prestigious games, have been a persistent issue. Mugalitsi has made it clear that those found guilty of such malpractices will face severe consequences.
To tackle this issue head-on, the VCSSSA has formed a dedicated committee to scrutinize the details of all participating students. This committee, comprising experts capable of quickly identifying fraudulent activities, will ensure that only genuine students participate. “Only students who have been in the specific participating school team since November last year, except for the Form Ones, will be eligible to enter the competitions,” Mugalitsi emphasized.
This year’s County games, scheduled for June 19-22, 2024, will be co-hosted by Luanda and Emuhaya Constituencies. Soccer enthusiasts can look forward to thrilling matches at venues including Mumboha, Esiandumba, Ebusakami, and Es’ssaba grounds. Notably, the soccer final will see Ebwali take on Hobunaka in the Luanda constituency football finals, a highly anticipated rematch after Ebwali’s decisive 4:0 victory over Hobunaka last year at Mumboha Sports Ground.
In addition to soccer, other sports events will also be a highlight. Esalwa will be the venue for rugby competitions, promising intense action and teamwork. Meanwhile, basketball and badminton teams will showcase their skills at Bunyore Girls’ grounds.
The Vihiga County Term Two Games are not just about competition but also about upholding the values of fair play, integrity, and sportsmanship. With stringent measures in place to prevent any form of cheating, the games promise to be a true reflection of talent and hard work. As students prepare to compete, the community looks forward to an event that will celebrate the spirit of sports and the importance of honesty in all endeavors.
