The 12th leg of the KCB East Africa Golf Tour saw an impressive display of skill and teamwork at the prestigious Karen Country Club on Saturday. The four-ball team comprising Philip Wahome, Mike Njogu, Zack Koech, and Steve Lokonyo emerged as the overall team winners with a combined score of 119 points. Their performance outshone their closest rivals Evelyn Otsuyala, Koki Muia, Epimach Maritim, and Cyllus Onyango, who scored 110 points to secure the second-best team position in the tournament, which featured a total of 240 golfers.
“We had a formidable four-ball today. We knew the competition would be tough considering the names that had registered for this tournament but we came prepared to win,” expressed an ecstatic Wahome. “Our first and second nines were excellent, and we ensured to keep everyone in check since we played our golf in the morning. We will continue working together as we prepare for the grand finale.”
The tournament also highlighted individual excellence with Kyalo Nzioki’s remarkable performance. Nzioki returned an impressive 44 stableford points to be named the overall winner after a countback, narrowly beating Cyllus Onyango, who also scored 44 points and claimed the man winner award.
In addition to the winning teams, the tournament recognized several individual achievements. Wairimu Maina, a seasoned golfer, claimed the lady winner award with 40 stableford points, showcasing her prowess in a highly competitive category. Ryan Ndegwa emerged victorious in the junior category with 39 points after a countback, demonstrating the rising talent in the sport.
The KCB East Africa Golf Tour has reached its 12th leg, bringing together golfers from various regions and backgrounds. The tour, which has attracted over 1,500 participants so far, continues to promote golf across East Africa. The top two teams from the Karen leg join other teams from Nakuru, Uasin Gishu, Mombasa, Nyeri, Kericho, Kakamega, Mombasa, Nakuru, Trans Nzoia, Kiambu, and Burundi that have booked their places in the tour’s grand finale, slated for December 6, 2024.
In the staff category, Peter Ndichu emerged as the winner with 39 points, while Millicent Mello was the runner-up with 37 points. The longest drive awards were clinched by Pettie Ndolo in the ladies’ category and Lesaan Shani in the men’s category, highlighting the exceptional driving skills demonstrated during the tournament.
The KCB East Africa Golf Tour aims to foster a spirit of camaraderie and competition among golfers while promoting the sport throughout the region. The tourney, having already reached a significant number of participants, is set to grace Nyanza Golf Club for its 13th leg on August 17, 2024.
