Wamatangi Distributes Farm Inputs to Ikinu Ward Farmers

Today, Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi took a significant step in advancing socio-economic development in Ikinu Ward, Githunguri Sub-County, with a comprehensive distribution of farm inputs and educational bursaries. The event, held in the Kiaibabu area, was part of the Governor’s broader empowerment programme aimed at boosting agricultural productivity and supporting local students.

Governor Wamatangi’s initiative focused on agricultural support, with over 4,000 local farmers benefiting from the distribution of certified maize seeds and fertilizer. Each farmer received a 2kg bag of certified maize seeds and a 10kg bag of fertilizer. This assistance is expected to enhance crop yields and improve the livelihoods of the region’s farmers, demonstrating Wamatangi’s commitment to strengthening the agricultural sector in Kiambu County.

In addition to agricultural support, the Governor addressed educational needs by issuing bursary cheques to students in the ward. The bursaries ranged between Sh5,000 and Sh10,000, aimed at alleviating school fee burdens. Wamatangi also announced a special focus on students from single-parent families in boarding schools, who will receive Sh10,000. Orphans and students from particularly needy backgrounds will benefit from fully funded scholarships from secondary school through university, underscoring the Governor’s dedication to enhancing educational opportunities for disadvantaged students.

Infrastructure development was another key aspect of Wamatangi’s visit. Residents of Ikinu Ward have long raised concerns about the poor state of local roads. In response, the Governor pledged to provide the area’s MCA, Cedric Gacunga, with both infrastructural machinery and financial support to improve road conditions. This commitment aims to facilitate better access and mobility for the residents.

Furthermore, Wamatangi promised to install solar street lamps in Ikinu Town after road construction is completed, enhancing security in the area and providing safer public spaces for residents.

The Governor also shared plans for the development of modern market facilities in Ikinu Ward. The Kiambu County Government is actively seeking land to build two markets—one in Ikinu Town and another in Karia area. These markets are expected to boost local commerce and provide residents with improved trading facilities.

Wamatangi reflected on recent developments and the recognition his administration has received. During a recent Senate appearance, his administration was praised for its significant achievements in development over the past 18 months. The Senate’s commendation highlights the progress made under Wamatangi’s leadership and reinforces his commitment to advancing the county’s infrastructure and services.

At the event, Joseph Muhinja, Githunguri MCA and chairman of the Health Committee, provided updates on healthcare improvements, announcing that hospitals in Karia and Kiaibabu are being upgraded and will soon be completed. He also noted ongoing efforts to repair and maintain all roads in the area in collaboration with the county government.

The event was attended by County Assembly Speaker Wakili Charles Thiongo and a number of MCAs led by Cedric Gacunga, emphasizing the collaborative effort to drive forward the Governor’s initiatives and address the needs of the Ikinu Ward community.

Governor Kimani Wamatangi’s visit to Ikinu Ward marks a significant development in Kiambu County’s socio-economic landscape. Through targeted support in agriculture, education, infrastructure, and healthcare, Wamatangi’s administration continues to make strides in improving the quality of life for the county’s residents.
