Wanyama Claims Division One Title of NCBA Golf Series at Airforce Golf Club

Harun Wanyama emerged victorious in the fiercely contested Division One category at the ninth leg of the NCBA Golf Series. Held at the Kenya Airforce Golf Club in Eastleigh, Nairobi, the tournament marked a significant milestone as it was the first time the series was hosted at the Airforce’s 9-hole course. The event drew a competitive field of 97 golfers, all vying for coveted spots at the series’ Grand Finale.

Wanyama, playing off a handicap of 4, demonstrated exceptional skill and determination, securing a commanding win with a total of 40 points. Close on his heels was Major Elvis Murunga, who finished as the runner-up with 37 points, playing off a handicap of 6. The competition was fierce across all categories, with players competing in Division 1, Division 2, Division 3, and the Junior category.

In the Division Two Men’s category, Wally Bitok, playing off a handicap of 17, clinched the top spot with a commendable score of 46 points. Jacob Chacha, with a handicap of 20, finished as the runner-up, carding 43 points. This category saw remarkable performances, highlighting the depth of talent present in the tournament.

The Division Two Ladies’ category witnessed Carol Nthiwa, playing off a handicap of 23, dominate with a victory score of 33 points. She narrowly beat Damaris Kikwal, who played off a handicap of 21 and finished second with 32 points. This close competition underscored the high level of play and determination among the female golfers.

Col. Henry Mwereneru, playing off a handicap of 50, reigned supreme in Division Three, demonstrating impressive golfing prowess with a score of 49 points. Meanwhile, the Junior category was won by Hakeem Mutungi, playing off a handicap of 21, who impressed with a score of 28 points. These emerging talents reflect the promising future of golf in the region.

In addition to the main categories, the tournament also featured titles for guest and staff players. Jeremiah Kariuki, playing off a handicap of 33, emerged as the Guest title winner with a score of 39 points, while Jared Onyancha, playing off a handicap of 32, claimed the Staff title with a score of 35 points. These categories provided a platform for broader participation, celebrating the diverse golfing community.

He added, “We at NCBA remain committed to supporting the growth of golf in the region and providing opportunities for golfers to excel. We are therefore delighted that we have finally brought this series to this great and historic club for the first time since we began the journey in 2021.”

Following the successful event at the Kenya Airforce Golf Club, the series now moves to Thika Sports Club and Jinja Golf Club in Uganda for the 10th and 11th legs, respectively. Both events are set to take place on Saturday, August 3rd, promising more thrilling competition and opportunities for golfers to showcase their talents.

This ninth leg of the NCBA Golf Series not only highlighted the competitive spirit and skill of the participants but also reinforced the significance of such events in fostering community and promoting the sport of golf in the region.
