Kenya is set to experience widespread rainfall over the next seven days, according to the latest forecast from the Kenya Meteorological Department. The weatherman has predicted isolated heavy rainfall in several regions, including the Highlands West and East of the Rift Valley, Nairobi, the Lake Victoria Basin, Southeastern lowlands, and North-eastern Kenya. Residents in these areas should prepare for potential afternoon and nighttime showers, with thunderstorms likely in some places.
In the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, and Rift Valley regions covering counties such as Nandi, Kakamega, Bungoma, Nakuru, and Narok morning rains may occur in a few areas before giving way to sunny intervals. However, afternoon and evening thunderstorms are expected in several locations, with occasional night showers. Meanwhile, Turkana and Samburu counties will experience morning rains followed by afternoon and nighttime showers.
Central Kenya, including Nyandarua, Nyeri, Murang’a, and Nairobi, will likely see cloudy mornings with light rains, followed by possible afternoon and night thunderstorms. Similar conditions are expected in parts of Eastern Kenya, such as Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, and Garissa, where morning rains may transition into thunderstorms later in the day.
The Southeastern lowlands Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, and Kajiado will have cloudy mornings with light showers before sunny intervals break through. However, afternoon and nighttime thunderstorms may still occur in some areas. Coastal regions, including Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale, will experience scattered showers throughout the day, though heavy downpours are not expected.
Temperatures are expected to remain high in the Coast, Northeastern, and Northwestern regions, with daytime maximums exceeding 30°C. The Met Department advises residents to stay alert for potential flash floods in low-lying areas and to take necessary precautions during thunderstorms. Farmers are also encouraged to utilize the rainfall for agricultural activities while being mindful of possible crop damage from heavy downpours.
With the rainy conditions persisting, Kenyans are urged to monitor updates from the Meteorological Department and plan their activities accordingly to minimize disruptions caused by the weather.
