The Kenya Meteorological Department has forecasted a significant decrease in rainfall across most parts of the country between April 29 and May 5, 2025. According to the latest weather outlook, only a few areas are likely to experience scattered showers during this period.
In its statement, the department indicated that average daytime temperatures exceeding 30°C will prevail in the Coast, North-eastern, North-western Kenya, isolated areas of Western Kenya, and the South-eastern lowlands. Meanwhile, cooler nights with minimum temperatures below 10°C are expected in the Central Highlands, Central Rift Valley, and around Mt. Kilimanjaro.
Sunny intervals will dominate the Coastal region, affecting Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale, and the coastal parts of Tana River County. Similarly, the South-eastern lowlands, covering counties such as Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, and Taita-Taveta, alongside the inland parts of Tana River County, are set for largely sunny days, although morning, afternoon, and night showers may still occur in isolated areas.
The Highlands East of the Rift Valley including Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi, and Nairobi will experience cloudy mornings with light rains over some places, followed by sunny intervals later in the day.
On the western side of the Rift Valley, sunny conditions will dominate the mornings across the Highlands, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley region. However, afternoon and night showers and thunderstorms are expected in parts of Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Busia, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, West Pokot, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, and Narok counties.
In the North-western counties of Turkana and Samburu, residents should anticipate sunny days with partly cloudy nights. There remains a possibility of occasional morning rains and isolated afternoon and night showers.
The Kenya Meteorological Department has advised the public to stay updated with daily forecasts, especially those in agricultural sectors or planning outdoor activities, as isolated showers may still disrupt localized areas.
