Webuye East National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) has introduced a new initiative to assist local students by providing Ksh. 5,000 to every day scholar attending school within the constituency. The initiative, announced by the area Member of Parliament, Hon. Martin Wanyonyi, aims to relieve the financial burden on parents and enhance access to education for all children in the region.
The program is set to begin next Monday and will see parents benefiting from direct financial support to ensure their children can continue their studies without hindrances. Hon. Wanyonyi emphasized the government’s commitment to promoting quality education for all children in Webuye East, expressing that no child should be left behind due to financial constraints.
During the announcement, the Webuye East Deputy County Commissioner stressed the importance of regular school attendance and urged parents to send their children to school. He reminded the community that it is illegal to keep school-age children at home, reinforcing the government’s zero-tolerance policy towards education neglect.
The initiative has been met with praise from educational leaders in the region. Mr. Aggrey Ligami, the Chairperson of the Kenya Secondary School Heads Association, commended the MP’s efforts. He highlighted that the funds would significantly aid in the smooth running of schools, particularly in easing the financial pressures faced by parents and school managements.
However, the initiative also brought attention to the persistent issue of teacher shortages in the region. The Bungoma East Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Executive Secretary used the opportunity to call for urgent intervention from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to address the shortage of teachers, which continues to hamper the effective delivery of quality education.
As the new education support program rolls out, stakeholders hope it will further contribute to the overall improvement of education standards in Webuye East, setting a positive example for other constituencies to follow.
