National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula has called for urgent investigations into the alarming rise of abductions and mysterious deaths reported across Kenya. Speaking in Khwisero Constituency, Kakamega County, during the official handover of the St. Stephen Namasoli Secondary School tuition block, Wetangula urged security agencies to act swiftly in resolving these cases.
Wetang’ula directed his concerns to the Office of the Inspector General of Police (IG), the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). He called on these agencies to expedite their investigations and ensure that those behind these heinous crimes are brought to justice.
“The office of IG, office of DCI, and office of DPP, along with internal security organs, must investigate thoroughly and let Kenyans know who is behind these abductions and killings. They must tell Kenyans who these criminal elements are,” he stated.
The Speaker expressed his dismay at the recurrence of disappearances, reminiscent of past incidents where bodies of missing individuals were discovered in rivers and remote areas, particularly in River Yala. He warned against a return to such dark times and insisted that the government must do everything possible to protect citizens from these crimes.
“We shudder to get back to any situation where we were finding bodies in River Yala and other areas. This is not the Kenya we want,” Wetang’ula stressed, recalling the national outcry that followed the discovery of multiple bodies in River Yala.
His remarks come at a time when the country is witnessing increased reports of kidnappings and unexplained deaths, raising concerns about public safety and the effectiveness of law enforcement agencies in addressing these crimes.
Wetang’ula reminded security agencies of their constitutional duty to safeguard the lives of all Kenyans. He urged them to prioritize investigations and ensure that those responsible for these brutal acts are held accountable.
“IG, DCI, DPP, you must carry out a thorough and swift investigation so that we can put an end to this issue, which is tarnishing the reputation of our country,” he emphasized.
Additionally, the Speaker reassured the public that the Kenya Kwanza government remains committed to upholding human rights and ensuring justice for all.
“The government of Kenya Kwanza has promised and is committed to respecting human rights,” he affirmed.
As Kenyans await action from security agencies, Wetangula’s strong stance highlights the urgent need for accountability and an end to the cycle of enforced disappearances and unexplained killings.
