WHO and Italy’s Dementia Observatory Partner to Enhance Care for Healthy Ageing

The World Health Organization (WHO) and Italy’s Dementia Observatory, based at the Italian National Institute of Health in Rome, have forged a three-year partnership aimed at advancing care practices for healthy ageing. This collaboration, formalized through a memorandum of understanding (MOU), focuses on several strategic areas. These include the development of comprehensive long-term care standards tailored for older adults, particularly those experiencing cognitive challenges. The initiative also aims to synthesize and prioritize scientific research on emerging issues in healthy ageing, guiding targeted interventions and policies.

Aligned with the United Nations Decade of Healthy Ageing, the partnership underscores a shared commitment to improving the quality of life for elderly populations globally. By addressing sociocultural diversities in care approaches and promoting evidence-based practices, WHO and the Dementia Observatory aim to foster more inclusive and effective healthcare strategies for older persons, enhancing their well-being and resilience in the context of ageing societies.
