US presidential envoy Steve Witkoff expressed admiration for the Moscow Kremlin and described his recent meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin as both intensive and potentially groundbreaking. Speaking to WABC radio, Witkoff shared insights into his fourth meeting with the Russian leader this year, which took place on April 25.
“I got to the Kremlin, it’s an impressive place, and I was a little bit awestruck,” Witkoff remarked. “But awestruck in the sense that I was there on behalf of the United States government trying to get a peace deal, and the enormity of it sort of struck me.”
Witkoff’s comments came after a three-hour discussion with Putin, which Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov described as “constructive and very useful in nature.” The repeated and lengthy engagements between the two indicate a significant level of commitment on both sides to improving relations and potentially resolving ongoing global tensions.
According to Witkoff, Putin appears genuinely interested in reshaping Moscow’s long-strained relationship with Washington. “He sees an opportunity, for the first time in decades, to recalibrate the relationship of the Russian Federation with the United States,” he said.
