Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has expressed his country’s readiness to engage in constructive negotiations with the United States, emphasizing the need for a “fair and honourable” agreement. His comments came just hours before the start of renewed talks on Iran’s nuclear program, raising cautious optimism about potential progress in the long-stalled discussions.
In a statement shared via Iranian state television, Araghchi underscored Iran’s commitment to reaching an agreement built on mutual respect and equality. “Our intention is to reach a fair and honourable agreement from an equal position,” he said, stressing that both sides must approach the negotiations with genuine intent. “If the other side also comes from the same position, then hopefully there will be a chance for an initial understanding that will lead to a path of negotiations,” he added.
The resumption of talks signals a potential thaw in relations between Tehran and Washington, which have been strained since the US withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal under former President Donald Trump. Since then, Iran has rolled back several of its commitments under the agreement, raising international concerns.
The renewed diplomatic efforts come amid pressure from global powers to rein in Iran’s nuclear ambitions and stabilize the region. Observers say the success of the talks will hinge on both nations’ willingness to compromise and rebuild trust. As both parties return to the table, hopes remain that a balanced and durable agreement can be forged to ensure regional peace and nuclear non-proliferation.
