Kenya and the United States have reaffirmed their commitment to resolving the ongoing crisis in Sudan, emphasizing the urgent need for peace and stability in the war-torn nation. Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi disclosed the collaboration during a meeting with a U.S. delegation led by Deputy Assistant Secretary for East Africa, Sudan, and South Sudan, Peter Lord, on the sidelines of the London-Sudan Conference.
The discussions, held at Lancaster House, highlighted Kenya’s pivotal role in promoting regional peace, particularly in the Great Lakes Region. Mudavadi, accompanied by Attorney General Dorcas Oduor, National Security Advisor Amb. Monica Juma, and High Commissioner Catherine Karembu, emphasized Kenya’s support for a Sudanese-led political process backed by international partners.
“The U.S. acknowledged Kenya’s role in promoting regional peace and reaffirmed their support for ongoing initiatives in Sudan,” Mudavadi stated. He further stressed Kenya’s stance against military solutions to political disputes, advocating instead for dialogue and a unified Sudan.
The conflict in Sudan, now in its third year, has resulted in thousands of deaths and displaced millions, including women and children. Kenya has actively engaged key Sudanese stakeholders, including leaders from the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), as well as civil society and political representatives, to push for a peaceful resolution.
At the London-Sudan Conference, Mudavadi presented Kenya’s position on regional security in the Greater Horn of Africa, calling for intensified efforts to end the crisis. Kenya’s approach prioritizes inclusivity, urging all warring parties to embrace dialogue and work toward lasting peace.
The collaboration between Kenya and the U.S. signals a strong international commitment to resolving the Sudan crisis. As the conflict continues to devastate millions, the joint efforts of regional and global actors offer hope for a sustainable political solution. Kenya’s leadership in mediating peace underscores its role as a key stabilizer in East Africa, while U.S. support amplifies the push for a Sudanese-led resolution.
With the humanitarian situation worsening, the urgency for peace cannot be overstated. Kenya and its partners remain determined to ensure Sudan transitions from war to stability, safeguarding the future of its people.
