The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) has launched an emergency appeal seeking more than $100 million to assist victims of the devastating earthquake in Myanmar. The powerful quake, which struck earlier this month, has left thousands displaced and in dire need of humanitarian assistance.
In a statement released on Sunday, the IFRC announced its goal of raising 100 million Swiss francs ($115 million) to provide life-saving relief and early recovery support to approximately 100,000 people, or 20,000 households, over the next two years. The funds will be used to supply emergency shelter, clean water, medical aid, and food to affected communities.
“Our priority is to provide immediate relief to those impacted and ensure long-term support for rebuilding efforts,” the IFRC stated. The organization emphasized the urgency of the situation, with many survivors lacking access to essential services and facing severe hardships.
Myanmar’s recent earthquake is one of the worst natural disasters to hit the region in years, compounding the challenges faced by communities already struggling with economic instability and political unrest. Humanitarian agencies are calling for swift international support to prevent further suffering.
The IFRC, working in collaboration with local Red Cross societies and aid organizations, aims to mobilize resources quickly to assist affected families. The global humanitarian network urged governments, businesses, and individuals to contribute to the emergency fund to ensure a coordinated and effective response.
