As Muslims around the world begin the holy month of Ramadan, the Supreme Council of Muslims Kenya (SUPKEM) has called on the faithful to dedicate prayers for peace in Palestine. The ongoing war between Israel and Palestine has led to the deaths of approximately 50,000 people, causing immense suffering and devastation.
SUPKEM Chairperson Al-Hajj Hassan ole Naado urged the local Muslim community to pray for a peaceful resolution to the conflict, emphasizing the need to halt further destruction and suffering.
“This Ramadan, we have in mind our brothers and sisters in Palestine and increase our Ibadah (worship) for those who continue to mark this holy month under disturbing situations. It’s time to raise our hands and pray for them,” Naado said in a statement.
He acknowledged that many Muslims around the world are observing Ramadan under difficult circumstances and expressed solidarity with those facing hardship. The council lamented the severe impact of the conflict on men, women, and children, noting that thousands of lives have been disrupted.
Naado also extended a message of goodwill to all Muslims globally, wishing them a blessed and fulfilling Ramadan. He encouraged the faithful to embrace the spirit of giving, compassion, and unity throughout the fasting period.
“As we begin the holy month of Ramadan, I wish all Muslims across the world a blessed month. We pray to God to bestow His mercy on us and grant peace, harmony, and unity to all. This is a season of giving, compassion, and unity. May Allah bless our nations, leaders, and people with goodness and prosperity,” he stated.
He also prayed for those unable to fast due to health or other reasons, hoping they would be able to participate in the future.
Ramadan is a significant period for Muslims worldwide, marked by fasting from sunrise to sunset as a way of spiritual reflection and devotion. The sighting of the crescent moon on February 28 marked the beginning of Ramadan on March 1.
President William Ruto also conveyed his goodwill message to the Muslim community, emphasizing the importance of fasting, prayers, charity, and sacrifice in strengthening communities and fostering unity. His message reinforced the role of faith in promoting societal harmony and spiritual growth.
