Mark Lundstrom, CEO and founder of energy company Radia, is spearheading the development of the world’s largest airplane, named WindRunner, with a groundbreaking mission in mind: facilitating the transportation of enormous wind turbine blades to remote onshore locations. This ambitious endeavor aims to accelerate the deployment of GigaWind, a new generation of massive onshore wind turbines that promise to expand grid capacity, reduce energy costs, and mitigate significant carbon emissions.
Unlike traditional aircraft designs that prioritize weight, WindRunner is optimized for volume, boasting a cargo hold capable of accommodating wind turbine blades exceeding 100 meters in length.
