Yahsat, the leading satellite communications company based in the UAE, has announced a significant partnership with SpaceX for the launch of its latest geostationary satellites, Al Yah 4 (AY4) and Al Yah 5 (AY5). The agreement, marking a pivotal moment in Yahsat’s expansion and modernization efforts, involves SpaceX’s renowned Falcon 9 rocket, known for its reliability and cost-effectiveness in launching payloads into space.
The decision to collaborate with SpaceX underscores Yahsat’s commitment to deploying cutting-edge satellite technology to enhance its service capabilities. The AY4 and AY5 satellites, developed on the Eurostar Neo platform by Airbus, are pivotal to Yahsat’s strategy of providing enhanced satellite communications capacity and managed services over the next 17 years. The procurement program for AY4 and AY5 is a substantial investment, with an estimated cost of approximately AED 3.9 billion (USD 1.1 billion).
