The Youth Enterprise Development Fund (YEDF) has successfully concluded a four-day intensive Artificial Intelligence (AI) training for over 40 young people in Kisii County. This initiative, aimed at equipping the youth with essential AI skills, marks a significant step towards fostering job opportunities in the burgeoning digital economy.
In a media brief dispatched to the Kenya News Agency (KNA), Kisii County YEDF Coordinator Aatos Mogoi expressed enthusiasm about the outcomes of the training. “This training is a testament to our commitment to empowering the youth and equipping them with the necessary skills to thrive in today’s job market,” Mogoi stated.
The training, conducted from May 30 to June 3 at the County Education Hall in Kisii town, was a collaborative effort involving Ajira Digital, the National Employment Authority, and the Director of Youth Affairs in Kisii. This partnership underscores a united front in addressing the pressing need for youth employment and skills development in the digital era.
The initiative aligns seamlessly with YEDF’s mandate of linking youths to mentorship and coaching opportunities. Furthermore, it supports the national government’s broader objective of creating job opportunities for the youth, a critical component in tackling unemployment and fostering economic growth.
One of the participants, Catherine Robert, highlighted the practical benefits of the training. “With the knowledge gained during the training, I can now source AI-related online jobs on platforms such as Upwork, 99 Designs, and Fiverr,” Robert noted. Her testimony reflects the tangible impact of the program, showcasing how the skills acquired are directly applicable to securing freelance opportunities in the global marketplace.
The completion of this training program is a milestone for YEDF and its partners, demonstrating a proactive approach to youth empowerment. By providing access to cutting-edge AI education, the initiative is not only enhancing the employability of the youth in Kisii County but also contributing to the creation of a skilled workforce capable of driving innovation and growth in Kenya’s digital economy.
As the digital landscape continues to evolve, the YEDF remains steadfast in its mission to support young people, ensuring they are well-prepared to navigate and excel in a technology-driven world. The success of this training program sets a precedent for future initiatives aimed at bridging the skills gap and unlocking the vast potential of Kenya’s youth.
